Momentum Jogging Stroller

Role: Lead Engineer | From competitive analysis to award-winning product launch

As the lead engineer on this project, I guided the development of the company’s first-ever jogging stroller, managing the process from early research through to a successful launch. The project began with extensive competitive benchmarking to analyze the existing jogging stroller market. This research revealed a clear gap in the mid-tier price segment, where customers were looking for premium features at a more accessible price point.

Working closely with the industrial design and product teams, I helped define the feature set with a focus on foldability, steering performance, and storage capacity. I engineered the frame to collapse more compactly than typical jogging strollers, improving portability and convenience for everyday use. To support both functionality and visual appeal, I designed a unique bowed-leg frame that not only provided an attractive side profile but also created ample room for a large under seat storage basket—one of the largest in its class.

One of the most innovative features of the stroller is the patent-pending QuickSwitch™ steering, which enables users to lock or unlock the front swivel wheel directly from the handlebar. This intuitive feature eliminates the need to bend down while jogging, offering a significant usability advantage over competitor products.

I was responsible for the full mechanical design using SolidWorks CAD, as well as hands-on prototyping and iterative development. During pilot builds, I applied root cause analysis to solve frame stiffness issues and address brittle plastic failures, ensuring durability and product safety. I coordinated with international manufacturing partners to meet performance requirements while keeping the product within a strict cost target, ultimately delivering a high-value solution that retailed for 30% - 50% less than comparable premium strollers.

In addition to my engineering responsibilities, I coordinated closely with cross-functional teams to ensure all technical deliverables were met, and I supported ASTM safety testing to help confirm compliance with relevant stroller standards. The final product was recognized with a 2024 Red Dot Design Award for its innovative design and market impact.
