Shimmer & Jade Ride-on Toys
Role: Lead Engineer | Platform adaptation and cross-functional development
This project involved reimagining an existing ride-on toy platform to create a more compact and assembly-friendly product while adding new interactive features. Building on the ergonomics and core components from the original Boots and Socks ride-on ponies, I led the engineering effort to redesign the body structure with a smaller packout footprint, significantly improving shipping efficiency. A key design shift for this version was enabling consumer assembly, which differed from the fully assembled format of the previous models shipped directly to retailers.
In addition to structural changes, I collaborated closely with the electrical engineering team to integrate a new light and sound module. This interactive feature allowed the toys to respond to touch and movement, providing a more engaging play experience for young children. I also worked alongside the industrial design team to translate their creative vision into an engineering-ready form, incorporating soft plush elements, unique textures, and character-specific details that brought the toys to life.
Despite a tight development timeline, I helped guide the project through successful production launch on Amazon. The product met aggressive cost targets and received strong positive feedback from customers for its play value, quality, and character design.
